So I have a PC which is about 3 years old, specs:
1st Gen i7 950 @ 3.07Ghz
Corsair 4GB RAM
Xenta 900W modular PSU
GeForce 6600 (originally)
GTX 580 (now)
Windows 8 Pro 64bit / Ubuntu 13.04 64bit
A couple of days ago I purchased a second hand GTX 580 (Gigabyte) and now when running games, the pc restarts or hangs (with a black screen). I measured current Draw with GPU-Z and when running games like MineCraft I am getting 18A drawn (at 1.027v (VDDC)) and it will run for about 5 minutes then restart the pc (hard reset). I also attempted to run the Windows Experience Index and that forced my PC to restart everytime except once (it was drawing between 55A-68A). When I run something like FurMark (I know can be risky) my current draw is around 58A but the pc never seems to restart.
I have tried running Ubuntu and after about a minute of the PC loading up it locks up and then it reverts to console and I get a GPULockUp message.
I cannot seem to pin it down to one thing? I am guessing the PSU, but could my graphics card be faulty? I am going round to a friend's house to try the graphics card in their machine today.
N.B. The 12V rails for my PSU are as follows:
+12V1 - 17A (Max)
+12V2 - 15A (Max)
+12V3 - 14A (Max)
+12V4 - 14A (Max)
Combined must not exceed 64A.
Any Ideas?
