What does actually a soundcard does, amoother sounds?

And does the MSI z77-g43 have onboard soundcards cause the last time i checked my rig i didn't buy any soundcard and if there is what is it? Is it good? Thanks

i am going to put it quite boldly. If your sound system doesn't cost more than 160$, don't worry about the perfomance of the onboard sound. Sound card is the equivalent of gpu but for sound processing. The thing is that sound is usaully way more "lighter" than image so your cpu, onboard Sound Card ram can handle easily mp3/wav/flac/etc formatted songs that you listen stereo(probably)


monitor resolution <-> sound format
number of monitors <-> number of sound channels
video recording<-> guitar+voice+drums recording
etc
