I am a beginner and am looking at Photography as both a hobby and semi-profession. I do web development and frequently need pictures of either the business or something else to use in building my sites. I have seen the PowerShot, CyberShot and Coolpix sub-brands, but which is the best and what model?

"Semi-pro", and "under $200", do not go together.

All those brands (Sony, Nikon, Canon) have good models at that price. But the results will be sub-par as compared to a DSLR. You can get good results from a point and shoot, but it will be different.

Check the review sites for comparisons. www.dpreview.com, for instance.

Hi KingJames - If you can stretch your budget by $20, you can get a brand new Pentax Q10 with the 5-15mm kit lens and a 1 year manufacturer's warranty from Newegg via eBay.

This is a deal - $10 less than you'd pay for this camera at Amazon and $177 less than you'd pay at B&H.

This camera has full manual exposure control, 5fps continuous shooting, a larger sensor than many point and shoots, the ability to shoot RAW and the flexibility of interchangeable lenses.

Here are some examples of the image quality this camera can produce: http://www.flickr.com/groups/pentax_q10/pool/

Right now, this is the best value for money in your price range.

Hope this is helpful and best of the holidays!

I would spend the extra $20 and get the $220 Pentax Q for its slightly higher resolution and the flexibility of its interchangeable lenses.

Good luck with your decision and happy holidays!

You can get Canon PowerShot SX600 HS here : http://www.amazon.com/Canon-PowerShot-SX600-Digital-Cam...

It's an easy to use camera with a versatile zoom range and above-average image quality. You also get Wi-Fi connectivity for wireless images sharing and remote camera control.

But if you want the camera with an removable lens, you can buy this Pentax camera for less than $200 at http://www.amazon.com/Pentax-Q10-zoom-lens-kit/dp/B009A...
