how to dedicate more memory to graphics

on my computer my graphics card says total avialable graphics memory 1695 MB yet when i was in the settings menu of one of my games it said 56 MB so why does it say i have so little yet in the settings of my computer it says i have alot more and how can i get more of the memory to go towards the game

The amount of vram on a dedicated video card is the true amount of video memory, your video really has. If the vram is 1GB, then your video card only has 1GB of vram. If you see extra, that is automatically allocated by the OS. Onboard graphics can assign the amount some system ram in the bios.
For the game at 56MB is that how much has used out of the total 1695MB or it has used up 1695MB and it's only left with 56MB available?
