my pc has a hdd + dvd device each with own connector to mobo.
can i add a ssd, or do i then have to leave one of the above out or is it possible to split up a connection?

let me guess, you are out of sata ports. what you can do is to get an add-on sata port card so you don't have to unplug any of the above.

but remember, ssd is at it's best only when connected over sata3. does your board have one?

You're right about being out of sata ports
No I think it's only 2.0 the machine being 5 yrs. Also no more empty PCI slots,
I guess I have to make DVD assy external on USB and replace internal with SSD or replace thet whole lot at once.

Thanks for the feedback!
