I am split between the two GPUs, the 270X is cheaper and newer, however I'm pretty sure the 760 is faster. Is the extra $50 on the Nvidia card more valuable than the cheaper AMD card?
According to the chart the 760 is one level above the 270x so is it worth $50 ? Maybe. You would be buying a better card that performs better so if it's worth the extra $50 then that's a decision for you to make.
If you don't notice a difference in performance then the 270x would save you $50. The only way to do that is to have the two cards and try each one in your computer.
In the benchmarks that I just looked at the 760 was consistently ahead in every game but the margin was from 2 fps to 12 fps and this was at 1920x1080 and ultra settings so unless you can find a wide range of benchmarks to show different settings you would have to base it on these.

It's a tough call and you can certainly make a case for the 270x being competitive.
Also you can see at Graphics Card Hierarchy Chart that R9 270X and R9 270 are at the same tier...
So either go for R9 270 or go for GTX760/HD7950boost.
