For awhile now Ive been working on trying to Upgrade my older HP Pavillion Desktop.
Ive Recently just recieved my two last compnents: A 8GB RAM Card, and a new Gigabyte Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128565
I had a bit of a low Budget.
Here are the compnents of the Desktop when it will be all assembled.
AMD Phenom ll Quad Core Black Edition
12GB RAM (Two 2GB Cards + One 8GB Card)
GTX 650ti 2GB Graphics Card
750Gb SATA Hard Drive
And my new Motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-78LMT-USB3 AM3+ AMD 760G HDMI USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard
I haven't assembled them together yet, only the Processor is in.
Im a bit new to the DIY CPU building and ive done a bit of research about how most Motherboards are designed to be Compatible with SATA but some are still IDE and im not sure if I will need buy a new Hard Drive.
I haven't assembled all the components due to the risk of maybe blowing my Hard Drive.
Anyone have an answer? Quick would be great if possible? Would they all be able to be compatible at least?

Solution
Hello... there are 6 Sata 3gb connectors on that mother board... and one IDE connector for HD or CD/DVD drive... your SATA drive will work on this MB... SATA is the new STD and IDE is out.

Your motherboard will support SATA. You may have to reinstall the OS, unless the chipset is the same. You simply cannot swap everything and expect the computer to boot up. What components have changed? The motherboard drivers and other drivers have to be correct. If you have an OEM version of your OS it is tied to motherboard,

Hello... not pairing up similar memory types can be a setup/build concern... take notice in manual as to best insert/place them... you can not run DUAL CHANNEL memory... and different speeds can cause problems... I'm am not an AMD expert for your MB/CPU selection... but all else seems good.
