Okay. I'm going to aim to describe this in a way people understand. I have an Asus AMD 7970. It has six ports 4 DisplayPorts, 1 DVI-I and 1 DVI-D. I want to use one DVI-I to VGA for my main 1080p monitor. I then want to use a DVI-D to 2x DVI-I for two other monitors. The other monitors are VGA so I would be using DVI-I to VGA on the splitter.

My problem is that the the graphics card only uses the DVI-D as a DVI-I and does not allow me to use the splitter

DVI is a one-to-one interface, you can't split a DVI into two monitors (as far as i know). DVI-D is dual-link, not dual-monitor. i think only displayport allows multi-monitors on a single card output.

you're going to need a displayport-to-dvi adapter (hello, eBay, here's $5, gimme my parts) to get #3 to work.

DVI-D is dual-LINK, which means more data lines (more bandwidth) to support higher resolutions, but still on a 1-to-1 basis.

hmm, all your monitors are VGA-only? i wonder how well the displayport-to-dvi-and-then-to-vga is going to work, or if there's a direct displayport-to-vga adapter available...

i'm assuming your DVI outputs on the card have the 4 pins for VGA, right? then those would be a simple DVI-VGA converter piece, no worries. it's the displayport that might be problematic / expensive cuz you gotta convert that to VGA.

One of my DVI ports uses a simple DVI to VGA adapter but the other one which physically is the same (four pins and the left side) doesn't work with the same adapter
