Okay so I'm planning on buying this build within the next few weeks.

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor ($109.99 @ Newegg)
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master RR-T4-18PK-R1 70.0 CFM Rifle Bearing CPU Cooler ($24.99 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: Asus M5A97 R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard ($92.99 @ NCIX US)
Memory: G.Skill Ares Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866 Memory ($52.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 500GB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($49.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Gigabyte Radeon R9 270X 2GB Video Card ($199.99 @ Amazon)
Case: Thermaltake Chaser A31 ATX Mid Tower Case ($59.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Antec Neo Eco 520W 80+ Certified ATX Power Supply ($39.99 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Asus DRW-24B1ST/BLK/B/AS DVD/CD Writer ($19.98 @ OutletPC)
Total: $650.90

definitely planning to oc the cpu so I'm not worried about the cpu..
now my question is: is getting a asus gtx 760 worth the performance increase for 50 dollars? I've looked at several benchmark lists for AO, AC, BF4,COD:G, etc. and the difference on most is < 10 fps. so my question is, if this was your build would u upgrade the gpu for 50?

side note: the asus comes with Splinter cell and AC4.

Probably not for $50 more. The 760 isn't significantly faster by any means, and it will all come down to the freebies that come with each card, as well as their specific features. For the 270X, there will soon be Mantle support in games like BF4, but right now nobody knows how much extra performance that's going to bring. For the 760, there is ShadowPlay if you want to record your games with the highest efficiency, and upcoming G-Sync, which could be a really nice touch in terms of refinement and smoothness. And each card should come with free games, and that's up to you depending on which games you want. Also, I believe the 270(non-X) is simply a downclocked version of the 270, so you can probably save even more money by going with the 270 and overclocking it to 270X speeds.

Hmm, I hadn't even looked at the 270....f I was to oc the 270, would I need to have extra fans in my case or will the stock fans be enough? also will wattage still be in correct range?

You won't need extra fans or power to overclock a 270 unless you want to really push the envelope. The 270 is honestly a few clocks behind the 270X, in most games there will not be a noticeable difference. More importantly will be which manufacturer and model you chose to go with.

how does a msi r9 270 gaming edition sound? it looks like the best one for 179, any of the ones at 189 and I might as well just get a gigabyte 270x for 199, right?
