I bought an msi gaming laptop but never played any pc video games. Any suggestions for first game and use of a controller rather than keyboard. Thanx Clyde

Steam is a great gateway into PC gaming. I recommend an xbox 360 wired controller for windows, most games for PC innately support xbox 360.

Games like starcraft 2 and league of legends, however, aren't distributed by steam, although they are on a whole nother level entirely. On steam you will find everything from entertaining casual classics like Bastion, the Binding of Isaac and Super Meat Boy to super advanced titles like Arma 3 or company of heroes 2 or even the "PC versions" of popular console games like AC black flag, Crysis 3, CoD ghosts, etc.

In addition to steam, EA has their own game catalog called Origin that they use to distribute Battlefield, etc; thats why battlefield 3 and above are not on steam.

Hello Clyde,
Choose whichever game types you enjoy... if you're not sure what genre you like, there are a number of free-to-play games to be found online that you can try out (or YouTube walkthroughs you can watch). As far as controls go, I switch between an Xbox controller or mouse and keyboard, depending upon the type of game I'm playing. Personally, I prefer a mouse for any game that involves aiming a weapon because (to me) it feels more precise. But, for games like Virtua Tennis or FIFA soccer, a controller can't be beat (in my humble opinion). Good luck, and welcome to PC gaming!

If you're looking for a great PC controller check out the razer sabertooth, or the microsoft controller for windows. You could even find a nice used USB xbox controller. Chances are a game is likely to support that controller of the bat, good luck!
