i got a 4TB external hard drive with external power source for my windows 8 64 bit laptop but when I'm in disk management its separated into two different sections. i before hand deleted the volumes on it cause it was not recognizing it on my computer but when i deleted them all it left me with two sections one 2048 GB another 1678.2 GB and they both say unallocated. i can use the 2048 GB one all of it but the 1678 GB i cant seem to set up as a volume. so whats happening here? someone please help. TY SOOOO much for the help!!

Solution
change the drive from MBR type to GPT type. you do this by right-clicking on the drive in disk management, the gray area to the left of the white zone of partitions, the spot that says "Disk 3" or whatever.

right click. you'll see "convert to GPT". that should do the trick.
