So i have this Dell Optiplex 740 desktop which was used for business and now i want it to turn it into a gaming computer that can also multitask as well. I play low end games like League of Legends, Star Craft and TF2. I get 10-25 fps on very low settings with this computer among those games. There is a website that analyzes your computer specs to see if you can run a certain game. Right now I am lacking good RAM and a dedicated graphics card. Can anyone help me out by finding a good graphics card to make my favorite games and future games go to 40-60 fps on low to medium settings (or high if you can find it cheap). And can you also find me a RAM that will make this computer multitask... For example, having a game run while having pandora and skype running on the background without sacrificing a drastic fps drop. I would also like it if the RAM can help the alt-tabbing feature alot quicker and browsing through the internet smoother when a game is running. My computer lags from alt-tabbing in game and i have to wait at least 10 seconds for it to function correctly. And when I have a game running and i want to search through the internet quickly (like go through social media and such) my computer is really REALLY slow. Can you find the items that will fix my computers problems? Im on a budget too. Also mention if the stock PSU can provide for the items you will list. PLEASE HELP ME?

Solution
For better performance I suggest getting more RAM and a GPU.

For RAM I recommend getting a 4GB Kit as this will give you 6GB of system ram which is above the average amount for a home computer and should help run games and multitask better. (Also I checked and it is compatible with the ram already installed in your system...i think)
RAM: http://www.amazon.com/Crucial-CT2CP25664AA1067-PC2-8500-Unbuffered-DDR2-1066/dp/B001A5PR1G

As for a GPU, and this may be a little over kill, but, I feel like it's a great deal is the GTX 560 Ti, I personally have this card and it runs high-end games great, it runs BF4 on low settings around 45 fps. I don't know if the card would fit in the computer unfortunately, but I am sure someone else could.

You...

You can find 560 Ti's on Ebay used for around $70-90.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for the effort in finding these items for me. I have questions though. What do you mean that the 4 gb kit will give me 6gb of system ram. And what do you mean "i think" its compatible with my computer. I also wont be looking at the GPU you have mentioned since you said it wont fit.

Alright... I am interested in the RAM you have chosen for me. I'll definitely consider those. Are there any chances that there are 8gb (2x4gb) sticks in the market? Just wondering,

As for the graphics card, will this be better?

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-1024MB-Graphics-01G-P4-2650-KR/dp/B00966IU4M/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1386560274&sr=1-3&keywords=hd+7750

If not... Will the given graphics card you have chosen for me fit in my computer? And will my PSU support it after installation of all these items.

Edit: The graphics card has some mixed reviews making me unlikely buying it. But give me your opinion. Even on both cards for whats best for my computer. With the fact that my PSU is 280 watts i think.

By "I think" I meant that, because I do not know if the RAM in your computer is the original RAM that model comes with I cannot know for sure the RAM is compatible with the RAM already in your system, however, I am 100% sure that the RAM I suggested will work with your system. Also I never said the GPU wouldn't fit, I said that because I am unaware of the space in your computer case I cannot tell you with 100% certainty that it will fit, but I am sure that there is someone here that can tell you if the card would fit or not. However I am very confident in saying that the graphics card you linked to earlier (The 650 I believe) would fit in your case and for what I can gather plays games fairly well at High Quality so it would be a great choice for your system :)

Just something to add-on that I missed, when I said it would give you 6GB of system memory I got the number from the 4GB kit I provided + the 2GB of system RAM that comes default in the Dell Opitplex 740.

Alright I am looking at the tech specs of this computer

-MEMORY-
-DIMM Slots Four
-Type Dual-channel* shared* DDR2 SDRAM system memory. Unbuffered, non-ECC DIMMs only
-Speed 667MHz or 800MHz
-Modules Types 512-MB, 1-GB, or 2-GB (667MHz only) supported memory modules and speeds may vary by chassis
-Minimum memory Dual-channel: 1GB
-Single-channel: 512MB
-Maximum memory 8 GB ( 2-GB per channel)
-Bandwidth 533MHz: Up to 8.5 GB/s dual-channel
-667MHz: Up to 10.7 GB/s dual-channel
-800MHz: Up to 12.8 GB/s dual-channel

Its saying that I have four slots that are available to me (including my current used slot of ram)
If i take off that 2gb stick of ram and install 4 sticks of these crucial 2gb per stick ram
would they be functional, as in compatible?

*Do you REALLY recommend and know FOR SURE that this EVGA 650 card will work properly and fit in my computer?

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-1024MB-Graphics-01G-P4-2650-KR/dp/B00966IU4M/ref=sr_sp-atf_title_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1386560274&sr=1-3&keywords=hd+7750
And is my regular stock CPU that i have in it fine for now?

Last question: When i finalize my purchase for the 4 sticks of ram and the recommended EVGA 650 graphics card.... Will i have to upgrade my psu?

*HUGE EDIT* I came across crucials website and they recommended a pair of these RAM

http://www.crucial.com/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=412A3878A5CA7304

They show a feature of the PC2-8500. The one that I was looking at previously is PC2-6400. <---So this wouldnt fit im guesssing. Throw that away and ill purchase the one that I found.
I would also like to say that I am using Windows 7 Professional OS 32 bit. YES 32 bit... And I researched that this OS uses about 3.5 gb of ram. So why buy up to 8gb of RAM now lols? Not unless it still makes my computer faster through applications(multi-tasking). In that case I will consider buying the 8gb of ram.

On some versions of the computer you are using the case is very thin, which may cause problems with fitting even a low profile graphics card, however, you can just not have the side panel on your computer if that is the case (haha get it? Case!) Plus computers look cool when you can see the insides!

Please stop letting me ask this. I see a huge difference in size compared to the EVGA 650... Is this COMPATIBLE with my computer and will it FIT without having my side panel off (upstagebuffalo comment).

Another question: What is the difference between these?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CBQNFJE/ref=ox_sc_act_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2UWRIL142AZQ0

http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GTX650Ti-SuperClocked-Dual-Link-01G-P4-3656-KR/dp/B00CBQNFO4/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1386642704&sr=1-2&keywords=EVGA+NVIDIA+GeForce+GTX+650+Ti+Boost

What does the superclock feature do. Why is it cheaper? Whats better...

Also the PSU that you have recommended has shown to be out of stock

Because the Opitplex 740 has a PCI Express x16 Slot, yes the card is compatible with your computer.

As for the graphics cards the Boost SuperClocked (this one: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GTX650Ti-SuperClocked-Dual-Link-01G-P4-3656-KR/dp/B00CBQNFO4/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1386642704&sr=1-2&keywords=EVGA+NVIDIA+GeForce+GTX+650+Ti+Boost) has a higher clock speed which is technically better, the superclock feature basically means that the card comes preoverclocked, why it's cheaper? No idea! But I am sure there is a logical reason.

well the above will do u wonders.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
