i have a hitachi deskstar hdt7250 320gb 7200rpm in a desktop i think i have bricked the hddd. i want to put my laptop hdd a toshiba mq01abd050 500gb 5400rpm same connections. the systems they are out of are toshiba satelite c855d-s5229 laptop running win.7 home prem. mother board went out and the desktop win. vista compaq pc sr5123wm gc660aa-aba. i just want to know if i can run the laptop hdd using my destop without having any problems with the system messing up or anything. both systems dont have any extras with them in terms of hard ware aside from what they came with.

oh wait - you mean you want to use the drive AND the operating system that's installed on it, on a different machine? that won't work, because Windows is expecting a specific set of mobo/cpu/etc to work with.

you CAN use the hard drive without any problems AS LONG AS you do a fresh install onto that hard drive.

maybe now would be a good time to pause things, and find out if your original desktop hard drive really is bricked, or if it still has enough life left in it to do a quick backup.

can you tell us what the desktop hard drive is / isn't doing? errors, smoke, etc.

It'll work just fine, just hook em up and you're ready to go.
I'm currently using a recycled HDD from an old laptop and I have no problems.
