I can not download updates with Windows 8. It originally gave me an error "80070003" but after following steps on a general article site to resolve it I now get an error code "8024A000." I also can not connect to the Windows Store because of a "server problem or it timed out," even though I am online.

Any recommendations on what to do?

Solution
First, run the script in the linked zip file below as administrator to clear the Windows Update cache. Check for update again immediately after the script is done, and you should be able to run the install.

Regarding the Windows Store issue, go to the Start Screen and type "wsreset" without quotes. the Store should load now, unless you have a third party firewall installed that is blocking the connection. Most instances I find however, are resolved by using the wsreset tool.

The store works for me now; however, once I did the script and it ran through the download of Windows 8.1, it started to install it...around 80% it stopped and restored the previous version of windows 8. It gave the error code: 0xc1900101 - 0x2000A.

find c:\windows.old and rename it to something else and retry. (assuming you have enough free space on your drive)

I have been trying for a year to update my HP Pavilion h8-1214 from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 Pro. It consistently stopped at 81 or 82% and consistently had the 0xC1900101-0x2000A error. I updated everything and tried very nearly ALL of the remedies 'out there'. Once I ran the script from The_Prophecy AND renamed my windows.old file, I was able to update my computer without any further problems. All the devices that had been disabled in previous attempts were re-enabled by the update and all the uninstalled were re-installed by the update. Hmmm... Thank you very much for the information and the script. Who knew the fix was so simple? Now, I'm ready for Windows 10!
