PC lagging most games

Hey guys,

For the past several months my PC has been chopping a lot when I play games. What bothers me is that some of these games, I never used to have any issue playing. For example, APB Reloaded never used to be an issue but now I suffer pretty significant performance loss and it makes it rather hard to compete with the opposition. I was wondering if someone could give me any advice as to how I would go about solving this. I'll post my specs below, I'm aware my CPU and MOBO are very old, but I'm still confused by the only somewhat recent drop in performance.

Operating System: Windows Vista™ Home Premium (6.0, Build 6002) Service Pack 2 (6002.vistasp2_gdr.130707-1535)
System Manufacturer: OEM
System Model: OEM
BIOS: Phoenix - AwardBIOS v6.00PG
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.7GHz
Memory: 12278MB RAM
Page File: 4915MB used, 19855MB available
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
DxDiag Version: 7.00.6002.18107 32bit Unicode

Card name: AMD Radeon HD 7800 Series
Chip type: AMD Radeon Graphics Processor (0x6819)
DAC type: Internal DAC(400MHz)
Display Memory: 3813 MB
Dedicated Memory: 2026 MB
Shared Memory: 1787 MB

Sorry if this was an unintuitive way of posting the information. I just put down what I thought may be helpful.

Also I'm not sure if it's possibly a connection issue or not, but I'm open to suggestions for checking whether or not I'm up to par on that aspect.

Thank you in advance for your time.

check your temperatures using HWmonitor (and/or GPU-Z and CPU-Z)

a lot of older comps start having heat issues due to dust/age/fans failing etc, and is a common cause of laggy gameplay in rigs that could handle the games before.

Another thing is that have you upgraded your GPU recently? If not, ignore this question, if so, did you completely uninstall previous drivers?

Also, check your comp for viruses, that could be a cause. And if you haven't cleaned out your hard drive in a long time this would be the time to do it.
