Power settings changed by themselves?

So today my step-dad turned off the power to our house to make sure our generator still worked, but he didn't tell me so my computer wasn't shut down properly (?{I don't know if I'm wording this right}) anyways, now I noticed my computer was going into sleep mode after 30 min of not being used. So I checked my power settings and instead of my custom plan that never puts it in sleep mode it was on High performance. I didn't change my settings and was wondering if it changed because it didn't shut down correctly. Please let me know why my settings changed, or what could have caused them to change.

Hi, I'm sorry for reviving this thread but my power settings have changed again by themselves. I'm using Win7, nothing has been changed on my computer since the last incident other than I changed from AVG to Avast. And it has not happened the last few nights.
And my computer going into sleep mode wouldn't be a problem but its on a power strip that prevents it from getting fryed if the power goes out and if the master plugin isnt powering anything everything on my power strip shuts down.
