so i currently have 3 vga screens and a gtx 780 it has a dvi i port a dvi d port a hdmi and a display port

i currently have 1 screen connected on a hdmi to vga active adaptor which seems to work even when its not powered?!?!?!?!?!?! and the 2nd screen is connect on a dvi i to vga convertor. now i brought a dvi d to vga converter but i still need to buy a vga cable for the third screen. my question is when i took the cable out of the dvi i convertor and put it into the dvi d convertor and the screen did not work. does this mean i need a active adaptor?

yes, most modern graphics can only drive one vga without active converters. consider upgrading the screens instead...

as much as i would like to upgrade the screens it is not much of an option unless you can find 3 screens for under £150.
so i would need a dvi d to vga active adaptor?
and the main reason i dont change monitors is that i wear glasses when im on computers so i dont notice the difference between vga/hdmi 120mhz screens, to me nothing makes a difference so i just go for the cheapest ones

So you have an HDMI to VGA active converter and don't even know why you need it?

because the hdmi to vga converter is being used by another screen
