Hey guys,

So I've recently been having problems with a re-occurring BSOD in Windows 8.1. The error code is: Kernel_Security_Check_Failure

Looking online, it seems like there can be multiple reasons for the error including hard drive/memory issues to conflicting drivers. The error has shown up when trying to open "HWMonitor", "Cinebench", "RealBench," so I don't know if it's related to how those diagnostic programs work. I ran MemTest last night to check the RAM, and it had no errors. When checking my hard drives, I encountered the following when I opened Samsung Magician:

"Magician cannot communicate with the below Samsung SSD(s). Please check with other compatible storage drivers and try again. 1. Samsung SSD 840 PRO Series (S12PNEAD266190A)"

The Samsung SSD is my boot drive, but the computer boots up fine (and outside of the occasional BSOD) seems to run fine. However, I'm wondering if these errors are connected. The other oddity inside Samsung Magician is there are two listings of the 840 Pro SSD in the drop-down, when I only have the one hard drive.

Any thoughts as to what could be causing these issues? Thanks!

try cleaning your registry. and run a malware scan with something like malwarebytes as the majority of causes for this error are data storage related.
when you have cleaned the registry run chkdsk -r from the cmd prompt with admin privs.

Hey there, thanks for the response. I've been running CCleaner on the registry and have run Malwarebytes. CCleaner did "fix" a small list of issues it found, and Malwarebytes did find something in a .exe file that I had downloaded in chrome, which I've removed.

As for chkdsk, my understanding was that that is unnecessary on a SSD, is it not?

I can't seem to re-create the BSOD (but it was happening very sporadically when it did show up), so I'm not 100% sure if this issue has been fixed. In addition, the potentially unrelated error message with Samsung Magician is still appearing, so any thoughts on how to fix that would be appreciated.

Thanks!

So it turns out the Samsung Magician error is unrelated. That one has to do with a bug in the latest version of that software that was just released -- it's been confirmed with other users at this point.

But if anyone else has input/advice on what could potentially be causing the Kernel_Security_Check_Failure, I'm all ears! Thanks!

It might be a corrupted file or process, I would recommend doing a back up of critical data and then reload using the media Samsung should have provided to reload your system and then restore the backup and see if you have any issues after that... sometimes a reload is just what the systems need.
