What's the worlds most powerful processor (for end users) name and how many cores it have?

anyway... i think it's intel core i7 4960x right now, may be succeeded by 4970x in the future. that's the most powerful consumer cpu available to mainstream (read ultra high end users with deep pockets) users. it has 6 cores, each core can execute 2 threads due to hyper threading, making it capable of executing 12 threads simultenously.

What do you mean by processor, of course I and other assume you mean CPU. However GPU's are far more powerful in many, if not most, cases.
The recent card from Nvidia has 2880 processing cores, optimized through CUDA processing.
