Hi, I built a pretty decent gaming rig about 6 months ago
-gigabyte 970a
-fx6300
-corsair vengeance 8gb 1600mhz ddr3
-his iceq boost hd7950

the only component I reused was my power supply I bought in 07 RAIDMAX VOLCANO RX-630A

The system has run totally fine up until I decided to start overclocking the GPU (I play at 2560x1440 and like eyecandy) basically when I overclock the gpu even slightly, the system will shutdown most of the time in heaven benchmark or a game (no artifacts or anything, just shuts down). I dont think heat is an issue as it happens even with fan running at 100% and only around 50c under full load. Also, I ran case open with a large desk fan blowing right on the vram and it still happens. Do you think the power supply is the issue?

I disagree, that sounds like a PSU issue. I have had a computer shut down due to an overclock, but it is rare. Any PSU from 2007 is probably too old. I would go for a quality 550w. A new PSU can never hurt, and they are relatively cheap. An overclocked 7950 (with custom PCB, not sure of your model) will draw close to 350w, so that doesn't leave much room.
One of the best.
