Upgrading my gpu

So, I've been thinking about tossing the xbox 360 in favor of computer gaming and I am a little confused on where I want to start. Currently, I have relatively new desktop that has a 2nd gen AMD Quad-Core A10-5700 processor with 12gb of DDR3 and I want to see what my options are for a gaming pc. Like I said earlier, I am relatively new to this but would it be possible to achieve a high quality system that will run games like battlefield 4 on higher settings by adding a higher quality GPU. Is there a way to pair both the new GPU with the current APU, or would it be better to disable the APU's integrated graphics and just use the separate GPU? I've been reading about such things as crossfire where this may be applied in my situation. ANY advice would be much appreciate!

Currently APUs are good for low end gaming and whatnot.

If you want to start getting into more modern, graphically intense games, you'll need a better CPU and a good GPU.

You could technically add a GPU to your current build, but you would find that the A10 holds you back quite a bit and will be a significant bottleneck.

Ok, so by significant bottleneck your referring to graphics output as a whole? I'm just unclear if it is the fact that the processor lacks in speed, because of the integrated graphics i.e. it is not powerful enough as a standalone CPU and will "bottleneck" the GPU.

as a stand alone cpu its the same as an athlon ii x4 which is weaker than the fx series but it will not be as bad as it sounds with a decent dedicated gpu
