I had to replace my computer and when I did I upgraded to windows 7 OS. on a dell computer. I partitioned off a new hard drive so I would be able to use my printers, scammers & camera's in XP which I installed first on the hard drive. Then I installed Win7 on the other partition using a Win7 OS off the internet form Microsoft but it didn't have the works or word programs when it finished. I would like to know if there is a way to retrieve the programs from the hard drive that came with the computer? I tried to just copy them but that did not work. I can open the original hard drive with Win7 on it using an external hard drive devise I have connected to my computer I use for data storage.

Word and MS Works are independent applications, not included as part of the OS. You need to obtain the install files or disks for these. As they were probably installed on the original machine from Dell as part of the package you bought, you may be out of luck.

Just 'copying' them over won't work.
