Hello I am having a serious problem whenever I start my computer within certain minutes it just turns off no shut down, no hibernation, no shut down & no sleep just turns off the whole system turns off. I thought the pSU was the main problem but when i saw some posts related to my problem i found out that it was the cpu cooler that was having the main problem (I think). When i measured the temperature of my cpu it gave reading upto 122 degree & got turned off clarifying that whenever I start some heavier programs the temperature will be upto max. 122 degree & gets turned of itself. With all due respect, please sir give me a solution for this.

agree compaq is a royal pain but so are toshiba satellite it had a foam ring of hair dust and what i assume someones pizza due to it being a refurbished unit lol beware of places like office depot there a joke used bluetac as thermal paste

is this a desktop?

if so you should carefully remove the CPU cooler, clean off the stuff that's on there, and apply a thin layer of a good thermal compound such as arctic 5.

if it's a laptop,

you can either try to do the same as above yourself (may be complicated), or take it to a repair shop. Also, cleaning out dustbunnies may help

You bring up a valid point. Laptops clog up rather easy.

People with pets tend to get laptops this way faster than one would guess.

To add to this, unlike my old Compaq notebook, This thing needed to be taken right apart to get to the cooler.

Just another reason for using desktops at home :)
