Atm im gaming with an asus p7p55d pro, with an i5 760 @3.4ghz, using the sapphire 6770 vapor - x 1 gb and have 8gb Ram, its good to run like crysis 3, shogun 2 on ultra, but am looking to get battlefield 4 and Rome 2 for Xmas, and dont want to get left behind,
I'm looking at buying the radeon 7850 (2gb) to upgrade my gpu, but, while im at it, thought a new motherboard will help so i can go crossfire in the near future,

So for the motherboards, i have no clue what im lookin for tbh><

I think I'm missing something, or you are, as it doesn't make a lot of sense.

1. Your current motherboard is capable of Crossfire, it's only PCIe 2.0 but that really isn't a problem.

2. Upgrading your motherboard without upgrading your CPU doesn't make much sense.

3. Socket 1156 motherboards aren't readily available any more. It's a effectively a specialist item. You will be able to find them, but they won't be cheap, and they almost certainly won't be cost effective.

So, basically, if you want to upgrade your graphics card, go ahead, you shouldn't really have any issues. I'd probably avoid crossfire most of the time though,

Would my current CPU be able to play all these newer games coming out atm though? Sounds like my mobo/ CPU is quite outdated, how much is a decent newer mobo/CPU

Thanks you too btw for the help!

It's definitely going to start to be a limitation.

If you wanted to go for a non-overclockable i5 and a basic motherboard, that'll set you back somewhere in the region of $225/€225/£190, not including memory (you should be able to reuse this, though by modern standards it's a bit slow)

Overclockable i5 and suitable motherboard? ~ $335/£260

I think for now then, i shall just upgrade my gpu so the games are at least playable ( even if theyre on low setting ) will definately be upgrading my mobo/CPU next then! Sorry for the confusion, been a long long time since ive even opened up my rig, forgot all about the CPU socket limitations polova, i can just swap all my ram/drives,psu over to the new mobo/CPU

but thanks or the help, and advice! First time using this TomsHardware! Quick helpfull responses! Think youl be seeing more of me xD thanks again!
