Looking for your expertise. This is not my first build but it has been a while.

I can't get my mobo to post. I read many forums here regarding post and bios.

Here is what I have tried. I read all asus documentation. Checked mobo, no visible pin damage. Of course wearing static strap for all components install. I have tried flashing mobo multiple times using various usb sticks (I have not been able to find a stick under 4GB.) Older board so I used the .rom to .cap converter and always use Brenamer for renaming to Saberx79.cap. The usb update flashed and left the stick in mobo until usb stopped blinking. So the board should be converted from .rom to .cap file. The new .cap file that I got the board to accept is NOT the latest bios update that supports Ivy-Bridge (4820K) Now I can't get the mobo to install the latest bios.

Any help with getting my mobo to accept the flash bios update with Ivy-Bridge support would be much appreciated.

Lot of posts here regarding issues when using the flashback after converting to CAP. Try leaving both .ROM and .CAP files on the stick and test again.
If still no go, an option would be buying a BIOS chip from ebay or ASUS eStore (if in US) and replacing the board's one.

"Try leaving both .ROM and .CAP files on the stick and test again."

I have not read this idea before. .rom and .cap at the same time during one bios flash update. Is this not going to confuse the mobo even more?
Will I need to clear the CMOS again first?
My understanding was that I'm supposed to use the cap converter to get the mobo to accept a .cap

Does that mean any .rom bios and the latest .cap file on the root directory at the same time?

I will try this.

Ok. I will use the cap converter .rom file and the latest .cap file (4502)

I will post results and answers of the things I try.
Unfortunately, I'm on the forum at work but my PC build is at home.
There may be some delays in my questions and answers.

Ok. So. I put the .rom to .cap converter (.rom file in the root directory of the usb stick.
I also put the latest bios (4502) .cap file in the root directory.
Put the usb in the mobo and it flashed (light was blinking a few mins) then removed the stick.
Tried to post but the cpu light came back on.

Then, I removed the cpu and ram, checked for pin damage on the mobo again.
Cleared the cmos and used the usb stick again using the same two files in root directory.
Tried flashing again. (light blinked a few mins) then removed the stick.
Put the cpu back on the mobo and one ram stick in slot A1
Tried to post again. Cpu light again.

I don't know for sure if the latest bios is installed on the board or if it only has the .cap converter.

Where do I go from here? The store that I purchased the cpu and mobo from will not take them back.

How do I know if it is the Asus Sabertoothx79 mobo or the Intel 4820K cpu that is causing the problem?

Do I call for customer support Asus or Intel?
