I was downloading some stuff and suddenly my laptop acer goes dead. It restarted saying no bootable device found. Won't boot into windows.

Bios still recognize the HDD connected. I put on my Win 7 installation from the USB to do a system repair or to reinstall windows if necessary. However, on system repair it shows no existing OS installation, and on Installing new it says there's not one single MB of disk space left.

HDD also makes no sound.

Does it means my HDD is dead? I''m a bit pissed cause it's only 6 months old. Anyway I can repair it by myself? I'm really low on cash.

Took the HDD out and couldn't seem to find any problem with it, physically.

Thanks!

I'd try popping in in another PC or laptop and see if the bios recognizes it, most likely a dead drive. As for the repairing it your self? Hit it on the table see if it starts spinning again....thats about all you can do.

What you describe is usually a failed HDD. No repair to it either. If it was a desktop pc you could maybe use some recovery software to try to get the data off. If it has failed you will get a new replacement. In that case all your data will be lost. Contact Acer and ask what they can do for you as it is under warranty.

Thanks for the rep guys! Hmm ok I guess I can shell out for a new HDD. I bought the laptop off Amazon so not sure if it is warranted. Heard Acer customer service is crap, especially since I'm in Paris... Will see what I can do.

In the meantime, I need to make sure that it's the driver is dead and not the mommyboard or any other fancy stuff. Cause that would cost a hell lot of $$$. So, I pop in another HDD to see if it works? As long as it's SATA it should be compatible right? This failed HDD is also SATA.

Amazon has great purchase support. Contact Acer through Amazon. They will give you a new drive or entire laptop. I would ask for an entirely new item as it is 6 mo. old and totally under warranty. You do what you want but why be in doubt and start replacing stuff at your own expense? Part of the price was the warranty so use it.

+1 I agree, I just bought a Razer Mamba mouse($100) nothing like a laptop but anyways got it friday had issues with it over the weekend called amazon on monday, receiving a replacement today. That simple. Also awhile ago while building my PC i ordered 2 ASUS GTX 560 graphics cards at $190 a piece one of them was dead on arrival i called them up they sent me a shipping slip via email, printed and shipped it back no problems whats so ever. Amazon has a great warranty and replacement policy.

Here is the link for getting to support, you have to choose the item your having issues with then at the bottom it will have an a couple options of contacting them, i usually pick Phone "call us" and they actually call you its very simple.
