Hello! I am trying to connect to the internet with a really long ethernet cable that i ran from my pc to my modem. The problem is, windows vista won't let me enable the ethernet cable because it won't stop looking for a wifi connection. When I try ethernet, it says that it wants my password for my ISP. With linux and XP, I plug the freaking thing into the pc and it connects!!!!!! I need ethernet to download my wifi driver due to the fact that the previous wifi was a pci card and my new mobo doesn't have the right pci slots for it. What do I do? I need windows to play games. (Wine is too slow)

Do you have the system setup to use a custom connection in the web browser or have DSL and have pass-though setup in the modem? Reset the web browser to default settings, disable the wifi card in the system and try again. If you only have a modem, at times it will not want to setup a new computer on it without a reboot as they are really only made for one computer connection at a time and may tie in the connection with a specific MAC address. You should use a router between the modem and your computers.

Sorry for such a long time in reply. I gave up on connecting via ethernet and just burned a disk for my wifi driver.
