My fan is making a grinding noise

One of my fans near my CD drive started making this obnoxious grinding noise, so in a panic I shut it down, and when I rebooted it didn't make the noise anymore, and this went on for about a week, I'd boot up my computer, have to suffer through the grinding noise till I got to the login screen, reboot it through the button you get on log in for it to stop. (Pressing the button on the case does nothing.) But now it takes two restarts to get it to run softly and I'm starting to worry there might be something wrong with the fan. The amount of times I have to restart doesn't seem random, it's two times now, every single time I need to turn on my computer. Anything I can do to fix this problem?

Thanks in Advance.

That sound usually doesn't go away after a few minutes, though.

To the OP, the actual fan replacement is very easy: disconnect the power cord for the fan and loosen a few screws to remove the fan from the case. However, getting to the fan depends on the case your computer is in and the location of the dying fan. What case are you using?

Are you sure its a fan, and not the CD drive itself? if its a fan that's an easy fix they are cheap. If its the CD drive that's not so bad either (unplug the power to the CD drive and see if sound goes away). Just replace whichever part it is, both are dirt cheap anymore.

I'm not sure, I know it's a Thermaltake case, the fan in question is right under the CD drive, and it oddly enough as I stated before stop makes the noise after two restarts from the log in screen. (In the software, not pressing the hardware button.)

A noisy fan will sometimes quiet down after a few minutes of running, but due to the failing bearing, it will eventually get worse.

Can you find a picture of the case? The last Thermaltake case I used was a Xaser V (way back in the Pentium 4/Athlon XP days), and on that one, the front popped off after removing a couple of screws, the optical drive, and the floppy drive (yes, I used one back then...).
