The hardware ->
-gigabyte z77-ds3h
-New GPU is GTX 650ti boost, old was GTX520
-onboard Realtek sound

The problem ->
Even though all jacks were functioning before, and I currently have things connected, everything says "unplugged" in the sound manager except "realtek digital output", which appears to be functioning normally and registering sound. No sound will come out of the speakers or headphones from any jack. Microphone also will not register. There is no problems that are visible in the hardware or software, but sound is not coming.

-> things I have tried.
-un-install+find new hardware
-revert to old card (fixed it) then back (broken again)
-use slimdrivers
-manually install driver from gigabyte, and then from realtek
-tweak every setting I can get my hands on in hopes of getting something working
-enter the BIOS and attempt to force the audio into action, but the new gigabyte bios is a pain and apparently there is only enable/disable onboard audio, which I set to enable.

Any other suggestions or does someone know a fix?
