Is a DVD-SuperMulti drive the same as a 8x SuperMulti DVD Burner

I'd like to know because I'm getting a laptop off the internet and it doesn't show a lot of pictures, and I wanted to know if I could play PC games on both.

The drive type does not matter much if you can play games on it or not, the CPU and video card are what you need to know about. Any DVD player will be able to install games, does not matter the exact model.
