My CPU came loose after I dropped my PC (4 in. off the ground). I booted up my PC after I dropped it and it shutdown on "Starting Windows." I rebooted and it made a wailing sound (sort of like a police siren) before it shutdown again. I opened the case to find that the CPU fan came loose. I put the top connectors back into the motherboard, and now it is pretty snug, but my computer is now extremely slow. It still shutdowns and makes a wailing noise time to time. Is the problem associated with the fan or could have any hardware been damaged when I dropped the PC?

Any time the heatsink/fan is removed from the processor, the thermal compound must be cleaned off and reapplied. That thermal compound helps remove heat from the processor into the heatsink/fan. Without a good layer of thermal compound, the computer will run very slow, and possibly shutdown under heavy loads, as the processor is trying to protect itself from overheating.

The wailing sound is probably an alarm mechanism to warn you about overheating.

You might need to re-seat the heatsink as well and apply a new layer of thermal paste.
