Best RAM configuration

So right now im going to be reusing my old ram into my new build until i get a few more bucks. I currenty have 4 sticks of 1gb memory

I want 8 gb for new build. Whats the best setup? 4 sticks of 2gb or 2 sticks of 4 gb?

If you use 2 sticks of 4 GB ram it allows you to add 2 more later, So I would go with 2 sticks.
