I'm going to upgrade my current computer which has a 1090T right now and a GTX 670. It's becoming an old CPU and the socket is dead so my motherboard is useless to a point. I'm thinking of getting a Z87 motherboard along with a 4670K a reason for this is because AMD has done it's announcement of going APU and that turned me off from AMD CPU's and going the intel route and as I'm told the Z87 with a 4670K will give me head room to get the new broad well cpus from intel aka their next generation of CPUs which is what I want. I'd like to get 2 generations out of a motherboard before I upgrade if at all possible.

So far it seems as if I should go with ASROCK, ASUS or GIGABYTE. I hear good things about all and just wondering what the best option is for me. To help with the choice. I over clock and would like a solid over clocking friendly board and I plan on going SLI with my GTX 670 which is a GIGABYTE version of the 670 (windforce x3) which I also over clock.

Maybe even some RAM suggestions would be great also. Right now I have 8GB Corsair Vengeance which I can't get to 1600mhz on my MOBO but the ram can clock to that.

Solution
My first choice would be the Asus Maximus Hero, Asus seems to have the best handle on the Z87/Haswells.....knowing a rough budget figure might help with suggestions

As a lot of people I assume say. I wan't to get a budget motherboard (under $200) that will give me the best bang for buck. Now, I'm in Canada. My "black friday" is boxing day so that is the day after Christmas. I may get a high end board if the price is right. So, I guess I'd like both suggested. Like what is the best budget motherboard z87 and what is the best overall for both price and performance.

As a side note that wasn't answered, if I get a z87 motherboard will it last me for the next gen intel chip?

Still the the Hero, next down, I'd look at the Gryphon from Asus then the Z87-Plus - as far as next gen - if all continues as is being 'out there' as far as Broadwell for desktop towards the end of next year then yes, I'm thinking with nothing upcoming from AMD, Intel may just pass on Broadwell for Desktop and go straight to Skylake, which will be a new socket

Okay, so I guess Ill rephrase my question then. Is the 4670K a CPU that will hold me up for a few years as long as I upgrade my graphics? I will SLI my GTX 670 when the time comes. Also, I will be attempting to OC the 4670K to it's highest potential. But is there another CPU that I should consider getting over the 4670K that will last me a while? I mean, I want a socket that will be able to hold a next generation CPU but, if I can get a CPU that will still be great when that comes out I will go with that.

As I'm sure a million people have asked. I want the best bang for buck. But, if It's worth spending that extra $100 to get that other CPU that will last longer and give me performance then I will do that. I rather spend more money for longer lasting product.

If you have time can you make me up a build?

This is what I have so far when I buy the ASUS Maximus Hero and the 4670k..

Motherboard - ASUS MAXIMUS HERO
CPU - I5 4670K
GPU - Gigabyte GTX 670 2GB Windforce x3
RAM - Corsair Vegenace 8GB 1600MHZ
PSU - OCZ StealthXStream 700W
CPU COOLER - Hyper 212 EVO
CASE - NZXT Phantom FULL TOWER
SSD - 128GB VERTEX 4
HDD - 1TB Seagate 7200RPM

This is the parts I have now on my current setup. My CPU and MOBO currently as said are the AMD 1090T 3.712mhz (OC) and ASUS M4A89GTD PRO USB3 AM3.

PSU should be fine, RAM, think I'd look to 16GB since you want this to last awhile, 8GB is entry level now, would look at the GSkill Snipers, Trident X or Ripjaws X in 1866/9 or better - also a question, are you set on a GTX 670? For about the same money or less can go a GTX 760 or a 280X possibly a 770

I already own a gigabyte 670 what I posted above is what I already have and I've only had my 670 for a year. Right now I'm looking at replacing my motherboard and cpu and that's it I'll add another 8gb of ram and I will probably sli my gtx 670 for higher resolution monitor.
