So my dad called me up today and said that his (older) laptop was running REALLY slow and it took minutes at a time to do ANYTHING... I had him go into his task manager and have a look.. and apparently he has 5 or 6 SVCHOST.exe running which I know are for all the little things windows runs.. he tells me that one of them is using 99% CPU and bogging down his laptop to the point it would be tmrw before he could do something... If he ends the process the computer goes back to normal but will not allow him to connect to the internet or bring up any web pages or anything.. after doing a little reading here and there I have seen a few solutions.. the main one being that it has something to do with windows update .. and microsoft has already put a patch out for it.. but i have also seen people say that it doesnt work.. so for now I have had him turn windows update totally off and reboot to see if it makes any difference.. but I doubt it will do a whole hell of a lot of good..

anyone else seen or heard of this issue? anyone resolved it?

Well.. turning off wind update and a simple reboot seemed to stop the issue for the moment.. but there is obviously an underlying issue causing this .. and like i said.. microsoft put out a patch that is supposed to fix it.. but i see mixed reviews for it.. some say it works.. some say it doesnt.. I guess that is the first step.. I had him check updates before turning it off and there were none.. so I will keep looking around and communicating with him to see what happens

I will try.. lol if he'll let me.. he is weary about downloading stuff.. he argued with me for a week about CCleaner before he finally put it on there and was surprised at the good it did.. but yes.. that was my next idea.. to do some scans and such to make sure there was no malware or virus or anything on there
