I was helping my friend build his rig, everything was going fine. We did an external test and it booted and the fans turned on and the motherboard was working.
Then we put it in the case and installed all the stuff and plugged everything in and then when we turn on the power supply, a stream of smoke comes from the Motherboard Power socket. Since then we tried to turn it on, but the motherboard will not boot... What can we do to fix it or what should we do to make it work?

Motherboard: Asrock Z77 extreme4
Power Supply:Corsair CX500m
Case: CM Elite 451 plus
GPU: evga gtx 760
Cpu: Intel i5 3570k
Memory: Gskill ares 1600 240

what made it go bad?............ smell the power supply and check to see if any of the wires are melted............. did you install the standoffs before installing the board?........... and maybe before you rebuild you buy another (better quality ) ps.......... the cx's aren't the cat's meow.

yes, and the standard ATX configuration provided by the case didnt match up with the mounting holes on the motherboard, so we only used the ones that lined up.
