Not sure if my router is going bad

First off, I am not a computer genius so bare with me.

Anyway, I have a home network that is supposed to receive 50down/10up. I am fortune enough that I almost always get higher speeds because Comcast must like me.. (I usually get about 54/11 in my modem)

So, I like to play xbox and livestream. In the past, I played xbox wired via ethernet and streamed from my laptop wirelessly. Everything was going good until about a month ago.

I know that wireless speeds are not as good as wired, but I am usually only getting about 13-15 down but my upload hasn't changed. This is not much of a problem, but I would still like to get faster speeds.

Anyway, my problem has been lag. I have a WRT610N router and I know it is very capable of transmitting high speeds wirelessly. My computer drops frames while streaming and also has trouble loading other live broadcasts because of the constant fluctuations of connection (i have a very good laptop, and it never had the problem in the past). I'm not sure what the problem is because even my xbox connection will lag when im connected wirelessly. Sometimes i will connect my laptop using an ethernet cable and the tests will show that it is doing great. What do you think the problem is? Let me know if i left out any information.

EDIT: My firmware for the router is up to date as well.

Solution
first test your speed directly from your modem.
you mentioned that router firmware is up to date, double check to make sure it isnt the newest firmware causing that issue.
also try resetting the router the factory defaults and give it a go.
make sure the wifi adapter on your laptop is upto date as well.
if there are a lot of differences in speed/lag etc from your modem to the router, change the router to see if it persists.
when all falls down, call ur ISP to check for any issues.
