I already ordered a Thermaltake Smart 630 PSU
http://www.thermaltake.com/products-model.aspx?id=C_00001800

By the VGA says 6+8 pin (300 W card)
TT has:
1 x 6+2pin & 1 x 6+2pin PCI-E connectors (450mm + 150mm)
Cable length I suppose not gonna be enough only for 1 ! Or?
Other than that would be okay if I use 1x6 and 1x 6+2 that's the same as 6+8?

Maybe its a little late but am not sure this PSU is compatible with this ASUS VGA....
Maybe I can change the order if I can get a fast answer. Thank you !

you could use the connectors just fine, but that's a power-hungry card so i wouldn't trust that 630W supply with it. heck, i've got a 6-year-old 650W PSU that can handle more power on its +12V lines than the Thermaltake you linked. it's an Antec TP3-650 which isn't made anymore, though.

what CPU are you running, and how much power does that need? any overclocking? on top of the card and CPU, add at least 50-75W for other mobo stuff (incl RAM) and hard drives, and then power supply efficiency.

if you're gonna drop coin in a GPU like that, drop some coin on a proper PSU to keep it running.

i just base my posts on my elec.eng. degree and some math.

in YOUR case, the original power supply would likely work OK 80% of the time - but the other 20% (when the CPU & GPU are going full-tilt) there's a very good chance that it'll fall apart and you won't be able to do what you were hoping to do. basically, it's doable if that's the power supply you already own, but not the best idea if you're buying it as a new one.

the point is - for similar money, you can get something better that would work 100% of the time, and still have some margin of safety. you don't necessarily need an 800W supply, just a better 650W supply.

plus - while it's easy to swap in more ram or a different hard drive, swapping out a power supply is a pain because of all the wire management you have to deal with. it's possible, just a pain in the butt. might as well do it right up front.
