ASUS X552EA USB Driver Issue with Win7

Howdy! I've dredged the forums and have been unable to find a solution to my current problem:

I'm trying to downgrade an Asus X552EA-DH42 from Windows 8 to Windows 7. Everything seemed to be going well, but once the OS boots, it's unable to find the USB drivers.

Specifically, there's the little exclamation point in the Device Manager, Windows Update can't find the driver, flash drives don't appear under My Computer... and yet the light on the flash drive lights up when it's plugged in.

CPU-Z tells me that I'm working with an Asus X550EA model motherboard, with AMD ID1536 chipset and an AMD A55/A60M Southbridge.

I've tried going to American Megatrends Inc (the motherboard manufacturer) to update the BIOS, but that redirects me to a paid "service" that tells you what drivers you're missing. Not interested.

I've also gone to the AMD website and updated the drivers, which solved the SM Bus Controller that I was missing after the downgrade, but the USB drivers are nowhere to be found.

Any suggestions?

As a side note, I'm really impressed by the quality and responsiveness I've seen in the Tom's Hardware forums. That said, please don't tell me to just use Windows 8 and download Start8 or whatever it's called.

UPDATE: I should add that I've checked and rechecked the ASUS website for my product model, and all I've found are Windows 8 and Windows 8.1 drivers. I've also tried those, to no avail.

Hi i am facing the same problem, the only difference being i purchased this laptop only with DOS,no windows.
Now i have installed windows 7, but have the below problems in the device manager:-

1)SM bus controller
2)ethernet controller
3)network controller
4)usb controller

all exclamations.
Bunchie can you help me figure out how u solved the 1 st three exclamations, because i cant connect to the internet either with a wire or without a wire and even tethering through bluetooth has failed, so the only way things can get in and out of my pc is a cd drive.

Appreciate a quick response.

Thanks

1)SM bus controller
Download from here: http://www.asus.com/supportonly/x550ea/#support_Download
Driver to download:
Chipset_AMD_Win8_64_VER1310163000
Directory to load your driver from once unzipped:
Chipset_AMD_Win8_64_VER1310163000\Packages\Drivers\SBDrv\SMBus\W764A

2)ethernet controller
This driver you will need to retrieve from the following link:
http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=7&Level=5&Conn=4&DownTypeID=3&GetDown=false
3)network controller
http://www.asus.com/supportonly/x550ea/#support_Download
I downloaded and installed the following from the setup contained within:
WLAN_Atheros_Qualcomm_Win8_64_VER1000274

4)usb controller

Sadly, I have no suggestion. I am at a loss.

For me, I am going to give up on this laptop running Windows 7, soon. I am even having issues recovering from sleep mode. I will need to install 8 again to get the BIOS updated! Sigh...

It is sad because this is such a nice affordable little laptop, and I am not in the mood for Windows 8 yet. I will see if I have voided my warranty by down grading else this is going to be returned to sender.

If no return, then my wife will have a new Ubuntu box to check Facebook on. :)

Let me know if you got past the remaining hurdles!

How did you install windows 7 to the X552EA model? I have been trying but it has been saying there is a missing CD / DVD drive driver not found on the windows 7 install DVD. I used an external USB drive to find the same problem. I physically removed the internal DVD drive hoping to remove the request for the driver, but it still remains. So how did you install windows 7 on this laptop? Did you do a network install? a USB install? A modified Win 7 disc with updated drivers? Thanks

Did you ever find a total solution for the ASUS - X-552EA-DH42 drivers for Windows 7? I have the exact same model and am trying to do the same downgrade. I've written to ASUS tech support to see what they say [if anything]. Please reply directly to my email at:

Thanks!

To you or other people who might dont know yet.

when u tried to install win7 but u stuck in booting drivers. Here may be your solutions (read it carefully):

1.You can go to Bios settings ( shift click while clicking the shut down and on the laptop then as soon as the power turns on keep pressing the F2 button), it will bring you to Bios setup.
2.Now, navigate to advanced and look for USB3.0 support and u need to disabled it.
3.Go to Save & EXIT,down to 'Save Changes and exit' and press enter.
4.Insert the usb (with windows7 which is bootable) before you turn the power on.
5. Turn the power on but now u need to frequently press ESC button, it will bring bule box ( dont really remember)
6. Select your USB and press ENTER( not really sure too).
7. DONE!!! you may now finished. Go ahead and rock!!!
8. After u installed u may need to install service pack and drivers

Thank you so much!
I spent 2 days, 3 formats, countless chip set drivers, and many hours trawling the internet!
The laptop is a relatives, and at one point I thought I had totally stuffed it up...
Thank you again, and have a Very Merry Christmas & New Year! =)

Nice Solution. But so strange bios setting. This laptop have only 2 USB3 ports (BLUE) and you cannot think of some setting in bios to disable the 2 USB3's usb3 support!!! But you are fantastic. Thank you.
