I recently had a friend help me out in selecting parts out for a desktop. Needless to say when the parts came in he helped me assemble it. Now the issue arises when ever we turn the power on, the fans spin and then it turns off after about 2 seconds. My friend doesn't seem to know the answer and is beating around the bush to help me and it's getting pretty depressing looking at a monitor and tower on a brand new computer desk and being unable to use them lol any advice would be greatly appreciated! The parts that I am using are as follows
- Strider Plus 500w
-Gibabyte motherboard Z77-HD4
-Intel core i7 processor ivy bridge i7-3770
- A Toshiba 2 Terabyte hard drive I believe
- and lastly a Radeon 7800 graphics card I believe as well
Thank you so much in advance

Hi -
Sounds like this might be your first build? Congrats! I swore off stock PCs long ago.

I see that you say, "...he helped me assemble it." I'm guess that you assembled this into the case?

In addition to what iam2thecrowe says (which is good trouble-shooting approach) consider assembling all of the parts and installing the OS *before* you load the parts into the case. I made this "mistake" with my first build, and since then I assemble everything outside the case to make sure that the components work. Invariably you wind up plugging and unplugging parts a few times, and it's much easier when you are not working in the confines of the case.

Just lay out a large-ish piece of cardboard for the MOBO, be sure that you ground...
start by removing all but the necessary components. use only the cpu (with heatsink on), 1 ram stick, motherboard and power plugged in, nothing else. see if it turns on. if it works keep plugging components in till you find the problem.if bare minimum config doesnt work, try ram in a different slot, or if you had 2 sticks of ram try the other one. let us know how you go.

Just lay out a large-ish piece of cardboard for the MOBO, be sure that you ground yourself before handling the components, take normal care to keep the parts clear of any risk of shorting out exposed MOBO components, and always be sure that the system is off before you plug and unplug.

Good luck!
