Hi everyone, I would like to know how to get the best performance

these are the general specs of my PC

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ 2.00GHz

2GB RAM DDR2 667

MOBO GeForce6100sm-m (supports only DDR2, up to 4GB)

GeForce GT220 1GB 128bits

Windows 7 32bits Ultimate SP1

Basically, I would like to run games smoothly, I can play FIFA 14 at low and Assassin's Creed IV with everything off, but i would like them to run a bit better

should I get 1GB RAM more, for a total of 3GB? would that improve the games performance?

thank you in advance!

What I would do, in order:

1) Upgrade to a dual-core processor. Anything from and AMD AM2 5200+ and up (to the AM2 6000+) would improve performance significantly.
2) Upgrade your RAM to the full 4GB (understanding that you won't see all of it).
3) Upgrade your graphics card to a low-end gaming class card (something where the second numeral of the model number is a "6" or higher).

thanks for the reply, the thing is that I can't afford all the upgrades you are naming =P

I would like to know if the RAM upgrade (from 2 to 3GB) would let the PC run the games better or not

thanks again

That would depend on how many other programs are running at the same time you're playing your game. Yes, going from 2GB to 3GB would likely help slightly.

thank you for your answer

I was thinking that maybe changing my CPU would improve my PC performance

currently I have an AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 3800+ 2GHz, I can get an AMD Athlon X2 Dual Core 5000+ 2.6GHz

do you think that upgrading from 2GHz to 2.6GHz would improve my games performance?

thank you in advance

Apologies.

When I first looked into your post, I mistook your processor for being a single core (not sure how I missed the "X2" in your description). Hence why, in my initial reply, my first step was to go for a better, dual-core processor. However, seeing that you already have a dual-core processor, the performance increase would be more modest.

That motherboard accepts the AM2 Athlon X2-6000 3.0 GHz processor. If you were to upgrade the processor, this (or the X2-5800+) would be the processor to upgrade to. Below this probably isn't worth the cost. If you cannot afford this processor, wait until you can or look at the cost differential between this processor and a new core system.

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking that maybe by upgrading my processor the overall performance of the PC would improve (I remind you that my "issue" is with games, I don't use 3D Editors, or such)

thanks once more, I'll keep doing some research
