New computer with fluctuating FPS

Recently built a new computer, following parts:

CPU:Intel i5-4670
Motherboard:Asus Z87M plus
PSU: Corsair TX750 750v2
GPU: MSI R9 Radeon 270x
Ram: 8gb (2x4gb) Kingston HyperX
HDD: Seagate 1TB 7200

The computer turns on, have win7 running, chrome and stuff works. When I start loading games, (Natural Selection 2), which isn't even on max settings, I get weird FPS, fluctuating from 5-70 ingame.

Not sure what possible errors there could be with the system. I think the parts can handle the game fine, but obviously I have missed something, some software or driver?

Btw, the HDD sometimes makes some noise which I'm not sure about either.

I don't know how to proceed.

Solution
Firstly i would make sure your GPU drivers are upto date, you are correct you should be able to get stable FPS running that game on near max settings, you do have a problem there.

download here (assuming you are 64bit):
http://www.msi.com/product/vga/R9-270X-HAWK.html#/?div=Driver&os=Win7%2064

i would also run a CHKDSK on your HDD to ensure no bad sectors or anything wrong with the disks as it shouldnt make a noise really unless it is just loud.

also when you get these drops, it would be interesting to see the Temperatures when this happens, do they rise above normal? or don't they change at all, could be a overheating thing.

also im not sure how recent this was but there have been drivers updated since October this year so maybe be...

try the above, and let me know what you find,

cheers

Ah, thanks for help.

I managed to figure out the problem and solved. I didn't have the fan on properly because one of the leg's thingy was screwed up so yea. The heatsink wasnt properly touching the CPU. It was running at 80 degrees.... LOL. (idle >_>)

How to close thread?

pick a solution, then someone will close it
