Possible slow RAM bottleneck

hey,

I have been suffering lower than usual FPS ever since i built my first build back in 2010. My specs back then were

QLeadtek GTX 550TI
Intel-Core i5-3470
Asus b75-D3V
Fsp Aurum 700W GOLD
800Mhz kingston RAM 4Gb

At that time i was having horrible FPS issues with games like Skyrim, BF3, Far Cry 2 and Far Cry 3. At the time of playing the games my GPU always hung on %80 - %90 most of the time and my CPU would usually hang around the same sort of mark depending on the game. After a while i pulled my PC apart and accidentally broke a CPU ping in the socket. I went out and bought a Asus P8Z77-m motherboard and i noticed a significant, but not major fps increase still not reaching the standard FPS that the GTX 550 TI should of reached as seen on various YouTube videos of people playing the games i played.

After selling the house I bought an Asus GTX 680 DirectCU II Top and decided also to see if overclocking my CPU to 4.0GHz being a non-k cpu. That is when i realised my motherboard only supported 1333MHz RAM and up and it had automatically overclocked the RAM to that speed. Now I have the same case of my GPU hanging around %80 and my CPU hanging around 60-90% even though my FPS is still dropping below 60 in all maps of BF3 (even with 0 players) crysis 2 also still dips below 60 without maxing out my CPU and GPU and so does Far Cry 3.

Could my slow RAM be my issue?

what resolution is your monitor? i expect crysis 2 on ultra to still dip below 60fps. i suspect if your using the intel stock heatsink, that it might be ogetting too hot and throttling, check temps under load. also make sure you have exhaust fans at the upper/rear of your case to get the hot air out. i see you only have 4gb ram, 8gb is recommended for the games you mentioned, also running a pair of ram sticks in dual channel mode gives double the bandwidth, so get 2 x 4gb sticks and you should see an improvement.

Overheating is definitely not a problem as my heat sink for the CPU is a ThermalTake FRIO-OCK and my case is the ThermalTake MK-I with 2 x 200mm fans and 2 x 120mm fans.

I am planning on buying a Kingston HyperX CL9 XMP 2x4GB kit so hopefully my issue is solved seeing I am only buying BF4 when I fix this issue.

probably about right if your using ultra settings and thats on a multiplayer map. if single player, then should be getting more in bf4.

I read a thread about someone experiencing the same issue. They said that after going to dual-channel memory there FPS was increased by at least 20-30FPS in BF4. I found this out originally on this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9lUaY1LPZ0 and a after a bit of googling i stumbled along a thread on the BF4 forums. I get those frame rates in single player also and it has come to a fact that dual-channel memory is needed for BF4.
