i use an alienware m14x r2 that comes with a 750 gb harddisk that runs at 7200 rpm. as my hdd is n longer working i need to get a new hdd . wuld it be better to get a 1 tb 5400 rpm hdd or the same 750 gb 7200 rpm hdd ? my first priority is that my gaming performance shouldnt be affected as compared to my previous drive.............if i get the 5400 rpm drive will it affect my gaming performance ?

Solution
The levels/maps will load more slowly with a 5200 rpm.
After they are loaded there will be no difference. Yes heat does affect longevity - as long as it's not too hot the difference is minimal.

also 7200 produces more heat, this may be a problem for some laptops

i do face a lot of heating issues....a little less heat would be nice....does this affect the longevity of the drive ?

Well yeah. Like I said, the slower drive would use slightly less power, and that naturally means it would generate less heat (watts of power consumed = watts of heat generated).

Loading times might be noticeably different. Actual gameplay would be unaffected in most cases, but there are exceptions.
