I currently have:

CPU: AMD A6-3500
GPU: HD 5670
Motherboard: GA A55M-DS2
PSU: ANTEC VP-450
RAM: 8 GB Corsair Vengeance 1600 MHz
HDD: 500 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM

Looking forward to upgrade my GPU, CPU+Motherboard before January starts but GPU first probably(?)

I play at 1366x768 since I have a small monitor but looking to change it after upgrading my PC no idea if I should go to 1080p or 1600x900? Really have no idea on how things will look much better with a much higher resolution. I'm on a really tight budget roughly about $300 + on how much I can sell the GPU, CPU+Motherboard.

Things I have an eye out for and open for suggestions since the prices here are pretty weird.

CPU: AMD FX 6300 ($110)

Motherboard: Not sure yet.

GPU:
7790 (Sapphire 1GB 128-bit GDDR5 $114)
7850 (ASUS DirectCU 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 $140) & (Sapphire 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 $172)
R9 270 (VTX3D 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 X-Edition $166)
7870 (Sapphire 2GB 256-bit GDDR5 $184)

I personally have sights on 7790 but when I saw the latest hierarchy chart I changed my mind to 7870 then after checking prices here I saw that the R9 270 was lower! One should really think carefully before buying. lol.

Also upon reading 7850 reviews with unlocked overclocking there is only 6~8% performance difference with 7870. I could use some other suggestions if there are "hidden" (not so known) cards that are powerful and costs less like the R9 270 which I found out today. Thanks!

I'm pretty much into overclocking IF I don't get playable/decent framerates on high/highest settings.

(I can't probably shell out more money since I'm still a student and the money I'm using is from my savings)

Solution
You need to remember that yes an overclocked 7850 is only 10% worse than a stock 7870, but the 7870 overclocks even better and an overclocked 7870 will absolutely destroy an overclocked 7850 by like 30-40%. It is all about perspective.

Oh I see, looks like the r9 270x is a good choice too like Peran said.

How about on r9 270, r9 270x, 7870 performances when overclocked and overclocking headroom? Is it 7870>r9 270x>r9 270?
