PCI Express for graphics card. You may want to remove that debris in the slot as you may fry the attached circuits.

I believe this is a PCI-E x16 slot (16 lane PCI express), typically used for a graphics card.
If you have the model number of the motherboard you could check online for a manual

Most graphics cards are compatible on any motherboard. If it's an older motherboard, you may want to upgrade soon since the older parts will only get more expensive and harder to find.

Any modern video card will support this slot (only very old AGP, PCI or ISA cards will not).
Make sure your power supply is OK for the card you choose and you have enough room in the case.
Don't spend a lot of money on a video card for an older computer, because you'll find something else will be limiting the video card.

Thax for the replies DigitalHermit and VincentP. I'm not a hard core game player. I just play medium games like NFS Mostwanted, Counter Strike etc., They used to run well in my previous dell 1558 laptop (i3 1st gen, 4gb ddr3 ram, intel hd graphics). But I gave it to my sister and using this old PC. To my surprise it couldn't handle NFSMW smoothly. I don't know if it is because of lesser RAM, or the processor. Plz go through the below snapshots of the specifications of my desktop and tell me if increasing RAM will solve the problem or do I need to install some mediocre graphic card. Thanx in advance.

The RAM is fine. The CPU is ok for older games.
The graphics card will help, but don't go overboard because the CPU will still limit you from anything too high end.
Maybe something like a radeon 7750.
