I have been on the fence about weither 8 GB of ram will be enough for a new gaming laptop I am buying. I also want to know if a 2 GB 765M is a big downgrade from a 770 3GB? I want this machine to last about 3 years and do some FPS gaming at LAN Parties. I am not bent on 1080 ultra graphics, even on my home rig I don't crank those settings all the way up. I just want smooth frame rates on the big AAA games for a few years to come. Any opinions?

You would be looking at an SLI laptop atleast! would highly highly recommend a nice SLI laptop and ofcourse get that 8GB ram. yeah its a big downgrade from what you mention but if your not into 1080p thats fine.

But laptops 3 years?.....get SLI ;)

Well you stated 3 years and thats a long long time for a laptop, laptops generally dont last that long. System specs you provided are OK! esspecialy at 720p its very do-able. you can go ahead and get the laptop but if possible an SLI laptop would be ideal. If you are willing to set games to low or medium after 3 years then surely go ahead.

Just dont forget to buy a laptop cooler if you will be gaming intensely on LAN party's, its an absolute must, a laptop cooler will also increase your performance and stabilize FPS because laptops clock themselves down once they reach about 90 deggree's which can happen and happens very very often to laptops.

765m = a 650 TI
770m = GTX 660

performance laptop compared to desktop!.

Check this link: http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html

If you can get a 770m for around same price its worth it as far as im concerned but it depends on what you personally want and/or can.

Thanks I was wondering what the close desktop comparisions were (I know its not exact). One last question. Do you think 16 GB will be needed in a year or two?

No not anywhere near the 16gb threshold! no worry's and RAM is cheap and easily swappable later on.

PS: clicked accidentily your post as solution xD haahha, can you correct it? thanks!
