First, before flames... i am 71 yrs old. I have built computers long ago but not lately. So I may not be up to speed on all the new technology and may have made a stupid choice somewhere. I could not find anything cheap...so I wanted to make one for grandson who is in college and does a lot of programming as a surprise gift. He is not a gamer, but he does keep a lot of windows open...and his current computer cannot handle it. :)

I picked out some components to do my own build but hoped someone could verify that i am not doing something stupid in the build. I would appreciate any advice as i don't want to waste money.

Thanks in advance for your help and consideration.

16 GB of ram is not needed, he will be just as fine with 8 GB of ram. :bounce:  I hope he likes the build! :)

16gb isn't a bad idea if doing a lot of multitasking. I have to run a pagefile with 8gb or I get low memory warnings.  I would suggest investing in an aftermarket cooling fan as the stock one is pretty poor. A Coolermaster Hyper TX3 would be sufficient and is fairly cheap. Usually it is less than $20. You could also go with dual HD 5450's for a bit less than the 610's. I would take that savings and put it towards Asus M5A97 R2.0 or a Gigabyte GA-970A-UD3P

Thanks for looking at my specs. I feel more confident in making the build.
