Hey guys, currently having a few issues with the fios service and using a different router. I got a run around last time since I called up and they said the Ethernet port was activated on the demark point when it was indeed not. after an hour they guy finally say it was infact not and was still using the coax. I got all the static info setup on the new router and its all running fine.

the main problem is since we are not using the coax the cable boxes do not get on demand or the guide since they still need to connect to the Verizon router.

I have the Verizon router getting an ip address but our router is on a different network and the cable boxes need the router to be set onto the 192.168 network to work correctly.

I cant setup a vlan for some reason to a completely different network on the sonicwall so I have a 10.10 and a 192.168 network.

has anyone had any experience with these?

I'm thinking my only option is to re enable the coax have their router before ours and just bridge the broadband connection so its not technically used.

we need our router to be in front so our DDNS and vpn work correctly

any help would be great, I've setup a few but its been a while and I cant recall how I got everything to work

You WILL have to bridge them. If you DON"T use the COAX the TV Box CAN NOT access anything for the internet plain and simple. I wanted to do what you did as well. Use my own Wireless N Router vs that crappy Wireless G one they gave my parents 8 years ago when they got FIOS. Told me they couldn't do it. Also the thing with FIOS is you HAVE to have THEIR router before yours. Any other router will just not get an IP.

well it is indeed possible using the ethernet port and still have on demand etc.

I messed up the settings on the router I believe so I reset it to defaults and what do you know all the boxes were working. Before the lan coax light was not on for some reason.

also dhcp still needs to be enabled on that router for the cable boxes to connect.

so now you know it is indeed possible to do

that's what Verizon was telling me but I set it up like that before. luckily I got a cool tech support guy that told me its completely possible and he has it the same way at his house.

after dealing with this many more times you can only get a different router if you dont have fios tv, without it the fios boxes will not get on demand or the guide via coax.

if you need this your out of luck, if you dont any simple wireless router will do it , you have to first make sure the ont is handing out internet on the ethernet port vs the coax. if it isnt you have to call them and have them change it to that ethernet port t

HAHA almost a year later! Yea I did more reading up on this after you and yea it all depends on the ONT. But even then (The house I live in now my buddy has FIOS, the ONT is on ethernet, and we STILL have to use THEIR Router! Bunch of BS) we couldn't use our own. Lucky that one finally took a dump (Cheap old wireless G) and we got a much nicer Wireless N one. I had to go in and configure it to use Ethernet on the Router VS Coax still. But yea if you use anything provider and you get digital TV from them you HAVE To have THEIR router up front and then bridge to your own. Otherwise you can get what ever you want. Hate how ATT UVerise (even the DSL Replacement) you HAVE to use THEIR Cheap router...Its lame...

Yea its all lame stuff. I wish they had an easy and simple way to just bypass the router for routing and use your own. I got a VPN i connect to at home and it was a PAIN to get to work on the FIOS router. There is a hidden menu that you have to access to change some settings to finally get the ports open to i could connect to my VPN on my Windows 7 Machine. Makes me miss the good old days of DSL where you could Bridge it and use what ever you wanted.
