Hi I have a Sony Vaio Vgn Ns 20e, and I recently replaced a Motherboard from a friend who has the same laptop. I installed the new motherboard and everything connected and when I boot on I get the Vaio logo and immediately after I see the black screen with blinking OS cannot be found. I tried removing the HD and booted and still the same thing. I put the HD back on and I inserted a bootable Windows 7 disc and It would not read the disc however I can hear the discs running max. I then accessed BIOS Where I tried to change the Boot Priority to HD as a first but after saving and going back to the boot Priority tab I can see the changes is again reverted back, so that means that the changes cannot be saved. I tried to USB boot but the BIOS is not recognizing the USB and it only shows External Device which if I change to enable I and save it, it just reverts back. So I read somewhere on the forums with someone with a similar issue which they solved by playing with a tiny four way switch with "on" and "off" position which apparantly started booting fine. So I am really out of options as my motherboard just won't read any bootable devices. This is a one in a million problem and I would really appreciate some help, I am dying of frustration and I have university assignments within 2 weeks.

First, it appears that your motherboard has at least 2 issues. It seems to not recognize the installed HDD and there may be an issue with the USB ports themselves.

Does your BIOS correctly identify the HDD when it is installed? If not, that is the first problem to solve. Open the case and examine all of the internal connections (small ribbon cables) to ensure all connectors are firmly attached.

I dont think it does, the HDD led light glows for 3 seconds and then its silence except for the fans of course. And yes Ive checked all the cables a thousand times everything is connecting perfectly. Thank you for replying back anyway. this seems like unfixable issue.
