I have a Dell Precision m6600 with the firepro 8900 video card. Well the laptop went south and dell is dispatching a repair guy with a new motherboard and new video card. they want to replace my 8900 with a 6100. i did a little research and this is what i came up with, but not sure what it all means(it may as well be in chinese my big tipoff was 8900 to 6100, usually model numbers go up not down so i decided to look)

firepro 8900.......................................firepro 6100
2gb ddr5............................................2bg ddr5
steam processors 960........................786
engine clock 680mhz........................1075mhz
memory speed 3.5gbs.........................1.3750gbs
mem bandwith 115.2gbs.....................88gbs
mem interface 256bit..........................128bit
compute power 1310 gflops................1651 gflops

any replies/solutions will be greatly appreciated. and any pointers on how to deal with dell would be great.

thanks in advance

Chris

Well, it actually looks like you're getting an upgrade. According to http://www.notebookcheck.net/Mobile-Graphics-Cards-Benchmark-List.844.0.html, the M6100 ranks #36 in the high-end cards area, while the M8900 is ranked #66.

Probably just a supply issue -- i.e. they don't make the M8900s anymore/don't have them in stock, so they're going with the M6100 instead.
